A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
