🔗 Share this article Shifting from Praise to Fury: Conservative Response to Epstein File Disclosure is Mixed. Right-leaning responses to the limited disclosure of documents involving the Jeffrey Epstein case have been sharply divided, with some backers of the previous administration highlighting the noticeable presence of Bill Clinton and other Democrats in images, while others expressed frustration over how heavy redactions cast Donald Trump and GOP members in a negative manner. Justice Department Defends Censorship with Strong Hyperbole Administration officials defended the redactions with intense hyperbole. “Never in American history has a President or the Department of Justice been this transparent with the public about such a delicate law enforcement matter,” stated Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who released a six-page letter describing the censorship process. Concerns Raised by Blacked-Out Sections While Trump's name and image are visible in portions of the materials, the widespread redactions raise serious concerns about the information may be hidden behind them. Some Republicans swiftly demanded greater openness. “People are furious and walking away,” posted Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. In a social media post, Republican Kentucky Thomas Massie said the censorship break the law, and suggested that a future Congress may attempt to impeach the top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, for that violation. “Unfortunately, this document release grossly does not comply with both the spirit and the wording of the act,” he continued. A Faction of Conservative Figures Rally Behind the Release However, some rightwing commentators and former President allies swung firmly behind the Justice Department's actions. The disclosed materials—from a justice department led by key Trump ally Pam Bondi—contains hundreds of documents that are entirely censored, and numerous of the individuals shown in pictures have their faces blacked out. But some are not, including high-profile individuals like Bill Clinton, pop singer Michael Jackson, and scholar Noam Chomsky. The inclusion of the former president, especially, allowed certain conservative voices to launch the offensive. “It’s pretty rich how the political left falsely claimed Donald Trump of associating with a pedophile, only for the administration's Justice Department to release Epstein files that show Bill Clinton swimming nude with a convicted sex offender,” stated right-wing activist Laura Loomer. “New Epstein Files reveal Bill Clinton shirtless in a hot tub with a female that is other than his spouse Hillary Clinton,” wrote attorney Rogan O’Handley. “There is only one reason Epstein would take pictures of a US President with a young woman in a jacuzzi: Blackmail.” Former President Spokesperson Releases Statement Bill Clinton has repeatedly said he knew of zero criminal actions by Epstein and has not been accused to have engaged in any misconduct. “The administration hasn’t been hiding those documents for an extended period only to dump them at the last minute on a Friday to shield Bill Clinton,” Clinton’s representative Angel Ureña stated in a statement. “This is about protecting themselves from what comes next, or from what they will try and conceal forever. So they can publicize as many low-quality decades-old photographs as they want, but this is not about Bill Clinton. Not previously, not ever be,” the response added. Broader Rightwing Commentary Remains Subdued However, overall discourse on the political right was comparatively muted after the disclosure, especially when compared with the vociferous calls for action that came before the congressional approval to pass a law mandating the files' publication. The commentator, who recently accepted media access at the Pentagon, had been among the loudest advocates for a complete release. Earlier this year, she chastised the administration broadly and Bondi specifically after a set of rightwing personalities were provided physical binders of materials that contained no previously unseen information.
